I tuned in primarily because Bruce Jones appeared, someone familiar from my years watching Coronation Street. He gave a good performance despite the script’s constraints. There were opportunities for him to display a range of feelings, but the storyline felt underdeveloped and relied on familiar tropes. I struggled with his character's reluctance to accept help while simultaneously disregarding legal boundaries; those principles didn’t seem consistent to me. Having experienced financial hardship myself when I was younger, I couldn't relate to that kind of logic. Even though I live in the States, I’ve watched a considerable amount of British television and films over time and generally understand the accents without issue. However, these actors frequently spoke rapidly and quietly, and I missed significant portions of some exchanges. Fortunately, because the story was so straightforward, it wasn't difficult to grasp what was happening. I will acknowledge that the conclusion avoided being obvious, but it also felt somewhat contrived, like a sudden, convenient resolution.
