Paul Maguire, portrayed by Nicolas Cage, has left a life of criminal activity behind him. However, his past resurfaces when his daughter is taken, forcing him to reassemble his former associates to locate those responsible and secure her release. There's more to the film than that summary suggests, but I won’t reveal any details if you decide to see it. Still, don’t expect a complex or captivating storyline; it falls short of that mark. I typically enjoy films with unexpected turns, but those moments feel empty when the performances and writing are lacking. This movie suffers from all of those issues. Nicolas Cage, an actor I believe is capable of great work, feels flat here, his actions seeming unconvincing and devoid of energy. It’s clear while filming he realized it was a misstep and simply stopped trying. It demonstrates that even talented performers can't salvage a film on their own—unless they are someone like Tom Hardy in *Locke* or Robert Redford in *All Is Lost*. Sadly, this one is titled *Tokarev*, after a gun, and the name itself pretty much encapsulates everything about it. Seriously. I’ve rated this movie two stars, and here's why. Peter Stormare has a brief appearance, and he delivers as always, and the scene following the credits... was actually a pleasant surprise. But beyond those few elements, it isn’t worth your time. Ultimately, I would advise against watching this film unless you are solely interested in action sequences and don't care about quality acting, compelling characters, or an engaging plot.
