A complete waste of time, I doubt I’ll ever revisit it, and I can’t suggest anyone else do so either. This film really shows Warner Bros.’ eagerness to copy Disney rather than developing their own animation style. It even appears they took a character straight from "Alice in Wonderland," perhaps finding some legal way around it, but the inclusion felt completely superfluous. To be frank, most of the plot is just ridiculous, and I don’t want to discourage creativity or imaginative thinking, but it's not even enjoyable. They used one of the few well-known tales that Disney hadn't already taken ("The Sword in the Stone" only focuses on Arthur as a boy, and this takes place after Camelot has been established), then piled so much magical nonsense onto it that it barely resembles any recognizable version of the original story. It’s not really a “King Arthur and his Knights” story; instead, it's about Kayley, though who she is remains unclear because the filmmakers invented her. Even Cary Elwes (from "The Princess Bride"), easily the best actor and most memorable character in the movie, seems to be acting with obvious boredom and frustration at having to play the part, despite being a fairly frequent presence. There’s a knight Arthur would never have sanctioned, a figure the audience doesn't know, who betrays the crown (unlike when Lancelot did it, which had real impact), kills another knight that no one knows or cares about, and this sets the main character off on an adventure based on something the viewers don’t care about. That journey is further established by a Griffon dropping Excalibur into a cursed forest—something normally handled by Merlin or the Woad—and while some magic would be acceptable, they essentially copied the "Fire Swamp" from “The Princess Bride” and added in these questionable individuals with weapons for hands. Everything I’ve said sounds crazy when written down, and that's before you factor in a blind guide or a two-headed dragon that despises itself. I am exhausted, and unless you feel compelled to witness a disaster, you should avoid this film altogether.
