Queen & Slim proved to be enjoyable throughout, and the film’s social commentary—which could have alienated viewers with specific political leanings—actually resonated with me. It won't rank among my all-time favorites, but I remained engaged while watching. This wasn’t primarily due to its themes or message, but rather because of how well the characters were developed. I appreciated that the two lead roles initially had a dislike for one another (particularly from her perspective), which gradually evolved into something more. Aside from the overweight police officer and the man with money near the film's conclusion, the other characters didn’t appear to be flat or stereotypical; they all possessed some degree of complexity. The plot does have parallels with films like Bonnie and Clyde and Thelma and Louise, but there are enough distinctions that it’s still worthwhile to see. The music wasn't particularly memorable for me, though as a white man of my age group, I probably don't represent the intended audience for that soundtrack. I think I may rewatch it down the road; I have a feeling it’s one of those movies where you can pick up on something different with each viewing.
