I enjoyed this film somewhat more than when I last viewed it—around '08 or '09—but it’s noticeably less impressive than Casino Royale. It's good that they made this a direct continuation, since most Bond films operate independently. The story itself isn't particularly strong and the antagonist isn't great either, though Mathieu Amalric does manage to be unsettling. While the action is well-done, there aren’t enough calmer scenes interspersed throughout. The ending reveal about Vesper felt like a letdown; it made her appear foolish, which doesn't seem consistent with how insightful she was toward Bond. Regardless, it remains a decent film overall, and I really liked Olga Kuryenko—it’s disappointing that she didn’t have greater success. **3.25/5**
