Several people possessing extraordinary mental capabilities are locked in a conflict within Hong Kong, all vying for control of a single suitcase. The narrative centers on three characters—Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, and Camilla Belle—each wielding unique psychic abilities, as they contend with operatives from the Division, a clandestine government organization. These powers range from influencing thoughts to moving objects with one's mind, precognition, tracking individuals, blocking detection, sonic attacks, among others. Djimon Hounsou portrays the leader of the Division’s agents. "Push," released in 2009, is a suspenseful movie that draws parallels to "Lucy" from 2014 and incorporates the distinctive atmosphere of "Lost in Translation" (2003) within an Asian metropolis. If you picture characters like Professor X, Jean Grey, and Magneto from the “X-Men” series, but stripped of their costumes and superhero conventions, that gives a sense of what "Push" offers. The Hong Kong setting is a strong point, although it primarily showcases the city’s less affluent districts rather than the upscale areas depicted in "Lost in Translation." The film's visual style is energetic and modern, reminiscent of “Lucy” and “Eye of the Beholder,” and succeeds in making its intricate plot accessible. The soundtrack also stands out favorably. However, it doesn't quite measure up to the other films referenced. While the storyline isn’t completely captivating, it remains reasonably engaging. The Division itself evokes comparisons to a heightened version of MK Ultra. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 51 minutes and was filmed on location in Hong Kong. GRADE: B-
