The movie feels like two distinct halves on a record – one side showcasing a captivating live performance from the lead actor, and the other presenting a weak, almost embarrassing drama reminiscent of Brat Pack films. The dramatic storyline centers around a young musician who endures his father’s verbal abuse and tries to avoid repeating those patterns, particularly after encountering "Apollonia" (played by Apollonia Kotero), an aspiring singer. While she shows interest, she becomes frustrated with his volatile nature and shifts her attention to the more dependable "Morris" (portrayed by Morris Day). This portion of the film drags on without offering anything fresh or engaging, and it’s filled with excessive close-ups.
