This 1980 slasher film features Jamie Lee Curtis. The story centers on a group of teenagers whose lives intersect after an accidental death occurred near Lake Erie six years prior. On prom night, the individuals responsible for that tragedy are systematically targeted by someone unknown. Leslie Nielsen portrays the school's principal and also the father of the deceased girl. "Prom Night" draws inspiration from "Carrie," "Halloween," and "Saturday Night Fever." It incorporates elements like the scheming students and prom atmosphere found in “Carrie,” a masked killer and Jamie Lee Curtis’ presence reminiscent of “Halloween,” and disco dancing similar to what's seen in "Saturday Night Fever.” The focus on a group of high schoolers feels comparable to later films such as “Christine.” The movie was released roughly two and a half months after “Friday the 13th” and fewer than twenty-one months following “Halloween.” Although it’s not the most technically refined film among these, its production quality is reasonably close. It also stands out for its portrayal of female characters compared to all but "Friday the 13th." Essentially, it's a coming-of-age story set in high school within the Great Lakes region, complicated by the presence of an unidentified killer. There are at least four potential suspects, and I couldn’t figure out who was behind the killings. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 32 minutes and filming took place around Toronto (specifically Richmond Hill, St. James Cemetery, Scarborough Bluffs, and Don Mills Collegiate Institute).
