There's an odd, stiff quality to the characters—almost as if they’ve been preserved—within this meticulously made portrayal of war and its disheartening pointlessness. The story centers on four warriors confronting each other: two Spartans, unclothed, and another pair who are more equipped and come from Athens. One of the Athenians is an archer, which seemed like it should have meant a simple victory, but he’s not very skilled, so there's a lot of fighting up close with spears, small swords, and raw physical power. A young girl and her mother watch this unfold. Could one of these men be her father or brother? The level of detail is remarkable; the lighting and graceful movements are rendered exceptionally well. It appears each frame was individually created and assembled so that every shot looks realistic while subtly varying in contrast from the previous one. They move like leopards hunting, with as much care given to their steps as to their nearly flawless expressions. This truly feels like a work of art and deserves a look.
