I wasn’t familiar with the underlying material—reading isn't really my thing unless it's a crime or thriller—but I found this movie enjoyable and touching, and Ryan Gosling was excellent. My enjoyment was lessened by some unfortunate circumstances: someone nearby seemed determined to spill every last bit of their slushie, I had to deal with an urgent need for the restroom during the final half-hour, and the theater itself felt quite warm. The D-BOX motion seating added something positive to the experience. I plan on watching it again when a 4K version becomes available. It’s a worthwhile science fiction drama overall. **4/5**
