Mark Rosman directed “Princess: A Modern Fairytale,” which aired on television in 2008, and it’s a movie intended for families centering around a friendly, struggling Princeton graduate (Kip Pardue) who spends his remaining money to go on a date with an isolated woman referred to as a "princess" living in a strange local castle (Nora Zehetner). As he develops feelings for her gentle nature, he realizes that something unusual is happening. The lead character has a pleasantness reminiscent of Richard Thomas—though he’s considerably taller. I did notice it was peculiar how readily he accepted the odd phrases and other aspects of dating the princess, such as constant references to some unknown “searcher.” If you don't mind that, this is a somewhat entertaining TV fantasy film with a touch of enchantment. The respectful way William (Pardue) pursues the princess is lovely and touching—a stark contrast to picking someone up at a disreputable bar. Zehetner is appealing, but she didn’t particularly impress me, even though there are other likeable women in supporting roles. The film is acceptable, but it's restricted by its television production costs and isn't as good as “Prince Charming” (2001). The movie has a running time of 1 hour & 28 minutes and filming took place in Toronto. Heidi Ferrer wrote the screenplay. GRADE: C+
