A very enjoyable film that I’d happily watch again, and one I can certainly suggest to others. It showcases a more restrained performance from Nicolas Cage, and the movie manages its balance well between him and Kevin Durand, along with LaMonica Garrett and his crew handling Durand's character. The setup is simple yet captivating: people are stuck on a boat alongside a dangerous killer, wild animals, soldiers, and a hunter—so who comes out on top? My main issue with the film, which it emphasizes quite a bit, centers around Nicolas Cage portraying someone who isn’t heroic; he's a poacher. The fact that he avoids a life sentence (though I question whether the US Coast Guard has authority considering it’s not an American vessel and neither nation participating in the voyage is the United States) seems to hinge on Famke Janssen having a romantic interest in him. Kevin Durand delivers a truly impressive performance. He's previously been limited to smaller roles, but given a chance to really stand out, he does so brilliantly, even overshadowing Cage at times within the movie. It’s not a cinematic masterpiece, but it is quite good, and I suspect you’ll find yourself recalling it later.
