It's hard to imagine anyone pitching _Pride_ as a movie idea—a story about miners and LGBTQ+ campaigners joining forces during Margaret Thatcher’s time? It seems unbelievable. However, the fact that it’s based on actual events gives it genuine impact. I thought it was a genuinely enjoyable film with an energetic soundtrack and just enough political substance to matter; issues like Section 28, mistreatment by law enforcement, and the AIDS epidemic are all addressed. There's warmth throughout, although the casting wasn’t perfect; considering how many Welsh characters there are, there were too many actors who aren't from Wales (and Ireland) with questionable accents.
