It’s hard to believe this is the same actor who starred in "Cruel Intentions." Has his career really come to this? Now he portrays “Andrew,” a Christian missionary working far out in the Kalahari desert. After being compelled to leave, they enlist the help of pilot "Grun" (Emile Hirsch), and suddenly find themselves amidst debris within a wildlife reserve facing hungry lions, hyenas, scorpions, and armed freedom fighters. Will they manage to live through this? While the film does showcase some stunning animals and the Vasquez Rocks National Park in California works adequately as a stand-in location, everything else feels quite badly written and handled, leading up to an ending that would have been better placed much sooner. The characters offer nothing for the audience to connect with; one is set on smuggling artifacts from the country, while another seems intent on converting the local people with endless bibles. Perhaps he mistakenly thought the movie was titled "Pray"? It doesn't follow a clear path and feels unstructured, wandering aimlessly in an attempt to create some feeling of danger from its dry and harsh setting, but ultimately failing to do so effectively. There’s simply nothing good enough here to suggest this film is worth watching, I’m afraid.
