Jacqueline Byers portrays Sister Ann, a young nun grappling with a difficult past involving her mother’s schizophrenia, which fuels her desire to enter religious orders and assist those struggling with mental illness. She works as a nurse at a church-affiliated hospital where the Catholic Church—guided by Fr. Quinn (Colin Salmon) and psychiatrist Dr. Peters (Virginia Madsen)—combines medical and spiritual approaches to patient care. Fr. Quinn oversees an exorcism training program, which draws Sister Ann’s attention. Her abilities are first put to the test when she attempts to assist a young girl, Natalie (Posy Taylor), who seems to be possessed; however, this encounter unleashes a host of demons, some with personal connections to Ann. The narrative itself isn't entirely without merit, but the acting and overall production quality feel underwhelming. While there are occasional startling moments, the story’s believability diminishes as it progresses. The script awkwardly mixes religious text with everyday language, and the conclusion feels predictable and unoriginal. It gives the impression of a short story that has been expanded beyond its natural length; perhaps it would have worked better as a brief television drama in the style of "Tales of the Unexpected," rather than being padded out with extended views of the hospital’s architecture and an abundance of rain. I watched it tonight in a cinema holding one hundred seats, and I was not shocked to find myself the only audience member—a testament to how disappointing the film ultimately is.
