It makes me wonder if this is essentially "Pocahontas" combined with "Predator." Just because it labels itself an “origin” story doesn’t mean its creation was necessary – and frankly, I couldn’t figure out who the intended audience might be. It lacks the suspense and intensity of the 1987 film starring Arnie, and I found myself anticipating a Peabo Bryson musical number as these clearly disadvantaged Comanche—and, to be honest, most of their animal equivalents—appear to be on the menu for this alien visitor with invisibility, impressive strength, and some rather advanced weaponry. It’s somewhat gory, but not any more so than what you'd typically find in a recent Blumhouse production, and it does move along quickly once the action begins. The performances are really unremarkable, and there’s absolutely no sense of danger as the whole thing stumbles toward an oddly amusing conclusion that did elicit a chuckle from me. The special effects feel dated, and while the human characters display tenacity and bravery, the narrative relies too heavily on a far-fetched David versus Goliath scenario. I was curious about why it didn't make it to theaters, but after seeing it, the reason is clear. It’s acceptable enough to watch, but I can’t say it’s particularly good or even memorable.
