The film *Prey* fulfills its potential, standing out as the initial installment in the Predator series to rival or even exceed the quality of the first movie. Director Dan Trachtenberg revitalizes the franchise by centering the story around a fascinating central character and exploring what drives the main alien antagonist, while also producing one of the most visually impressive films of 2022. The visuals and musical score both benefit from the decision to film on location, contributing to an almost grand feel—whether through stunning panoramic views that are sure to impress audiences or through meticulously planned action scenes featuring extended shots. Amber Midthunder gives what is considered among her finest performances to date. For those who enjoy the Predator films, horror movies, and/or action films, it’s difficult to find a superior offering from this year. Rating: A-
