The initial music from The Psychedelic Furs is likely what sticks with viewers most after seeing this story about young love, along with Jon Cryer’s memorable performance as the heartbroken "Duckie" singing a version of “Try a Little Tenderness.” The storyline centers on the unusual character "Andie," played by Molly Ringwald, and her developing relationship with wealthy student "Blane" (Andrew McCarthy), which upsets his unpleasant friend "Steff" (James Spader). After being rejected by Andie, Steff now holds a negative view of her that impacts Blane, who comes across as weak. Can they resolve everything before the prom—where we’re treated to an extended version of OMD's “If You Leave” and some dancing that isn't particularly good?
