'Presence' distinguishes itself through its filming style, which proves quite impactful, although the narrative turns out to be fairly conventional—leaning more toward typical teen storylines than expected. Despite that, I found myself enjoying the experience as it played out over 85 minutes, in a pleasing way. The cast is also a definite strength of this film. Lucy Liu and Eddy Maday deliver acceptable performances, but Callina Liang and Chris Sullivan are clearly the most memorable—both terrific. West Mulholland performs well, even if I’m not entirely convinced by all aspects of his character's portrayal. It’s notable that this movie arrived shortly after the UK release of Robert Zemeckis’ 'Here' – two films utilizing original perspectives. This Steven Soderbergh production doesn’t quite reach the same level of polish as that one, but overall it is worth seeing, particularly given its short length. Because of that, I was able to watch this in a cinema soon after watching Mel Gibson's 'Flight Risk'. Both films share a sense of being intended for streaming platforms (this has a vibe similar to the Welcome to the Blumhouse collection), but I’ll never complain about having the opportunity to watch movies on a big screen.
