Manuel São Bento on Predator: Killer of Killers

8/10 · Nov 3, 2025

I recently watched "Predator: Killer of Killers" anticipating something great, fueled by my fondness for Dan Trachtenberg’s work—he made “Prey,” which is one of my favorite movies in the series, and also directed "10 Cloverfield Lane," arguably the strongest entry in that franchise. The movie's format, presenting three linked stories, initially struck me as interesting because it suggested a level of creative flexibility rarely seen in live-action projects. Despite my high hopes, “Predator: Killer of Killers” proved to be an excellent film. Although each of its separate narratives is straightforward and somewhat predictable, they effectively showcase the movie’s main draw: the impressive animation. This combination of visuals and sound creates a truly entertaining experience, with action sequences that are vibrant, intense, and surprisingly cinematic, featuring beautiful landscapes and well-designed movements. The way the three stories come together at the end is also very effective, finishing up the characters' individual journeys before leading to an outstanding final image. The film does a wonderful job of broadening the scope of the "Predator" universe, delving into ideas about warrior traditions, respect, family connections, heritage, and the instinct to live. It’s clear evidence that having bold goals and a unique perspective can revitalize any series, and its last scene offers an uplifting representation of the complicated relationship between pursuing someone and fulfilling one's fate.
