It’s hard to overstate how obvious the stunt casting is here. Beyond that, ‘Precious Cargo’ falls short in nearly every respect. Mark-Paul Gosselaar carries the film as the main actor, while Bruce Willis has very limited screen time; and when he does appear, it seems like he put minimal effort into the project—I don't often accuse actors of not trying, but his performance feels detached. Gosselaar’s work is unremarkable, as are the performances from the rest of the cast, although I did find Jenna B. Kelly’s portrayal of Logan to be enjoyable. The movie tries its hand at action, comedy, and romance—and unfortunately, none of those elements succeed. The action sequences are passable, but the humor feels very contrived and is made worse by weak lines. As for the romantic plotline, there's an excess of what the film itself labels "sappy shit"; a completely action-focused approach would have been better. I do have to acknowledge that it’s refreshing to see two central characters—one male and one female—who both have significant roles but don't end up in a romantic relationship, instead maintaining a friendship; this is an unusual element for films of this type. The musical score is decent as well. Surprisingly, the film also includes a blooper reel after the credits. Better writing and stronger acting performances could have salvaged it, at least making it marginally watchable.
