I’ve been a fan of Power Rangers my entire life; I still enjoy revisiting _Mighty Morphin'_ annually, even though it wasn't ever particularly well-made. Considering this history, the 2017 film managing to be as decent as it was feels noteworthy, but predictably, _Power Rangers_ isn’t "good." The biggest problems arise during scenes intended to feel like classic Power Rangers moments. I found myself invested in the characters and their interactions before Rita Repulsa appeared, and before the costumes and the supposed climactic battle at Krispy Kreme – which is easily one of the worst instances of product placement I’ve encountered. The performances were uneven, certainly, but I was engaged with what was happening on screen. Sadly, this compelling portion only makes up about half the movie, and even that isn't flawless. _Final rating:★★½ - There was a lot here to like, but it didn’t quite come together._
