I got this film mainly because my kids wanted it, but I’ll admit, as someone who likes science fiction, I was curious to see what they'd done with a sizable budget. To be honest, I think the television series is terrible. So, I was pretty surprised to find that the movie wasn’t exactly good, but at least it was bearable. Let’s be clear: it has a simple and somewhat ridiculous plot—the kind of teenage fantasy story you'd anticipate. Still, it managed to provide some mild amusement. My enjoyment mostly came from the special effects and action scenes. The dialogue and actions of the young protagonists were as predictable and generally uninspired as you might imagine. Naturally, this means that the initial portion of the movie is less engaging than the second half when the action really gets going. Although there are a few enjoyable moments during their “training,” I thought the whole concept of them being unable to use their abilities until they reached some kind of proper "mental state" to demonstrate they were worthy Power Rangers was just nonsensical. Once things started moving faster, it did become more interesting. The various ways the Power Rangers got around were completely absurd, but still entertaining to watch. I don’t really have much else to add. The final scenes were essentially a huge showcase of special effects with some humor thrown in—mostly of the teenage variety. It was fun for someone like me who likes science fiction. So, what's the final assessment? Was it an enjoyable film? Yes, it was decent enough. A good movie? That might be pushing it.
