It might have been more successful as an original story. The remake felt strikingly similar to the earlier film, with nearly identical visuals—the house, individual shots, and scenes—aside from the actors and the updated setting incorporating contemporary technology. Someone unfamiliar with the 1980s version may find some enjoyment in it. While not a particularly frightening or intense horror movie, there were moments that felt like a dark comedy. However, I would still suggest watching the original film instead. Sam Rockwell’s casting didn't quite work; his performance was merely adequate. The child actors also failed to live up to their predecessors. The only real improvement came from the technological upgrades—swapping out older equipment for modern equivalents like LED monitors. I had hoped for more substantial changes, perhaps a different storyline or setting that would have created some distance from the original. It’s disappointing for those who appreciated the first film. Although this movie warranted a remake, I didn't anticipate it turning out this way. A sequel seems unlikely to be good; I suspect it will be handled by less experienced people and become a low-budget horror-thriller. 5/10
