It’s good news that *Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment* is better than the initial film, because I wasn't overly impressed with the first one. Nevertheless, it doesn’t rise to being genuinely enjoyable. The plot didn’t really grab me or elicit any real laughs, and the performers felt rather uninspired. This time around, my impressions of the actors are different. Steve Guttenberg performs better than before, but Michael Winslow – who was a highlight in the previous movie – is used sparingly; his (admittedly neat) sound effects aren’t as funny or appropriate. The people playing smaller roles fare somewhat better, though. It came close to being acceptable, honestly. I just didn't get that sense of enjoyment from it. Considering I have five more installments left to watch, at least it suggests a positive trend. Maybe things are looking up? Here’s hoping.
