This film manages to be different from what you’d typically expect from a Hallmark production, which took me by surprise. It avoids the usual tropes of successful women or wealthy individuals seeking romance. Instead, it centers on a woman who illustrates courtroom scenes, whose father researches penguins before disappearing, leading her to disregard regulations in an attempt to find him. Despite this, it still carries hallmarks of a Hallmark movie—there’s plenty of sentimentality and predictable moments that could almost give you a sugar rush. A noticeable oversight is the fact that penguins are prey animals, and rescuing them would negatively impact the whale population that relies on them as food. The storyline isn't particularly intense, but the reason she decides to remain in Antarctica after locating her father feels somewhat weak. If you’re looking for some sweetness without the typical empowering female lead often found in Hallmark films, it’s acceptable. You will also need to overlook the substandard CGI and digitally altered penguins and ice formations.
