It seems like this should have been terrible—a film centered around attractive individuals engaging in bank robberies to finance their indulgent habits fueled by thrills—but surprisingly, it isn't. Kathryn Bigelow maintains a consistent momentum throughout the entire movie, and both Keanu Reeves ("Johnny Utah") and Patrick Swayze ("Bohdi") appear to be genuinely enjoying themselves portraying the FBI agent chasing after the group of robbers who wear rubber masks and identify as "ex-presidents." Reeves is pleasant to look at, though his acting feels somewhat stiff, and yes, the storyline has noticeable flaws, but it wasn't intended to be profound. It’s simply a diverting adventure that involves our protagonist surfing and skydiving, and the camerawork is exceptionally well done. The conclusion, despite being weighed down by some sentimental romantic elements, proves quite exciting as the two characters seem to forge a small connection... It’s a modern take on the classic cops-and-robbers formula that provides entertainment for a gloomy evening and should be evaluated with that in mind.
