An FBI agent named Utah, portrayed by Keanu Reeves, is tasked by his boss, Gary Busey, with looking into a group of surfers to determine if they’re involved in bank robberies. Patrick Swayze takes on the role of the gang's leader, who seems like a spiritual guide, and Lori Petty acts as one of the surfers. John C. McGinley shows up as the head of the FBI. "Point Break," released in 1991, is an action/crime movie largely set along Southern California beaches that shares plot similarities with "The Fast and the Furious." This film is superior because Swayze’s character is captivating, and there's a compelling connection between Utah and Bodhi, alongside the relationship between Utah and Pappas, as well as Utah and Tyler. It’s an energetic movie full of action, but it also manages to include elements that focus on the characters’ emotions. Certain plot points might seem questionable, though they can be rationalized if you consider them carefully; other issues maybe not so much. The film has a feel reminiscent of the 1980s—a positive quality—and features music from that era, preceding the grunge movement, with Nirvana’s *NEVERMIND* arriving roughly two and a half months later. Its runtime is 2 hours and 2 minutes, and filming primarily took place in greater Los Angeles, including locations like Malibu, Culver City, Santa Monica, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Venice. The surfing scenes were filmed in O'ahu, Hawaii; the skydiving sequences at Lake Powell, Utah; and the ending sequence in Australia was shot at Cannon Beach, Oregon. GRADE: B+
