The premise showed promise, but the final product didn’t quite live up to it. The visuals were strong, and the color palette effectively conveyed a sense of despair felt by the central figures. Still, the narrative crawls at an incredibly slow rate; there wasn't much of a story present. It functions as a "slice of life" film that moves along at roughly the same speed as actual life does. It’s uncertain if the languid pacing and script were consequences of financial limitations, but like many films that have won at Cannes, this feels like a promising idea in need of a more polished version. There was so much potential to delve into aspects such as the difficult circumstances surrounding the law's creation, a narrative about those who opposed it and ultimately failed, a time skip showing how utilizing Plan 75 has become commonplace, or even a mockumentary-style program depicting the first senior citizen benefiting from the initiative. If you’re looking for something to pass the time, this might do, but otherwise, I'd suggest waiting for a reimagining of it.
