It’s acceptable to watch *Pitch Black*. Being a devoted fan of the *Fast & Furious* movies, I figured now was as good a time as any to explore some of Vin Diesel's other projects. The name of his character had been familiar, but I wasn't aware of what the story involved. It’s actually pretty decent, despite a few small problems. There's an undeniable sense that it was made with limited resources and quality, the special effects don’t look great now, and the performances are just average. Still, I did find myself entertained by the creatures, and those acting in the film do what’s needed. It tries to incorporate a lot of science fiction elements, which I can appreciate. Diesel is believable as Riddick, and I definitely see where this character could go. It's amusing that he shares the screen with Cole Hauser, who appears in *2 Fast 2 Furious*—the only *Fast & Furious* film without Vin Diesel. Hauser does well; he’s a good fit for this type of part. Radha Mitchell and Keith David are standouts among the rest of the cast. I'm curious to discover what they did with *The Chronicles of Riddick* (which is, naturally, the movie Diesel picked over 2 Fast). I hadn’t encountered this one before, but I am familiar with the sequel... so it must be good, right?
