Despite being inferior to *Piranha 3D*, *Piranha 3DD* still has a few scenes I’ll recall with some fondness, something I can’t say about the first film. Three things stood out: Ving Rhames' performance, David Hasselhoff’s appearance, and a comedic bit involving David Koechner. That's really all there is to recommend it, though. It’s objectively a poor movie, almost feeling like a weak copy of its predecessor—which wasn’t particularly good to begin with. The human characters are uninteresting, and the piranhas themselves didn't make much of an impression on me while I was watching. Fortunately, the film doesn't overstay its welcome. Danielle Panabaker is arguably the strongest member of the cast, aside from Rhames and Hasselhoff, who both deliver memorable performances in smaller roles. Adrian Martinez’s character had potential, and it was nice to see Christopher Lloyd again. It was also interesting to spot Matt Lintz, long before his part in *The Walking Dead*. And I realize this might be taking the internal consistency of these films too seriously, but shouldn't the piranhas have been larger in this one, given how the first film ended? This movie concludes with a suggestion of upright-walking piranhas, which is just as ill-conceived an idea as the flying piranhas from *Piranha II: The Spawning*. It’s fortunate that these issues prevented another installment. How long before someone decides to remake *Piranha* for a third time? I'd guess around 2030.
