There's a 1995 version of this movie that I would likely choose to watch again if I were in the mood for something like this. A note before watching: there’s surprisingly little gore present. The plot is reasonably well-constructed, but it has elements in common with *Jaws*, *Friday the 13th*, and other films from that time period. Specifically, it employs a technique of concealing the danger—something *Jaws* popularized. The practical effects aren't impressive, which explains why they mostly kept the fish out of sight; the approach actually proves effective when the threat is immense, seemingly insurmountable, and difficult to detect. The subplot involving a clandestine government initiative felt somewhat bothersome because movies often portray these kinds of scenarios as ridiculous when they have real-world counterparts. Perhaps not on this scale, but given that the government once denied the existence of Area 51, it seems to support my perspective. The acting was adequate; I didn't notice any significant issues or particularly memorable performances. It’s not a terrible movie, but there are many superior options available, including the remake, as far as I can tell.
