Accompanied by a score from Dario Marianelli, the film evokes the sort of project that seems like it might have been envisioned by Tim Burton with his unremarkable 'Alice in Wonderland', or Benh Zeitlin with his heavy-handed 'Wendy'. Garrone achieves something more engaging than just another standard Disney adaptation; this 'Pinocchio' smoothly combines adventure, comedy and lessons about right and wrong using elements of magical realism.
