It feels fitting that "Piggy" could be among the final films shown at a festival like Sundance. Carlota Pereda utilizes Laura Galán’s excellent performance to craft a disturbing, violent narrative rooted in reality and dealing with themes of bullying, body-shaming, and learning to accept oneself. Even though the story focuses on revenge, the director thoughtfully explores the ethical issues involved. The romantic storyline isn't very effective, and a more palpable atmosphere would have enhanced the film. A few key conversations addressing the central ideas also could have made a significant difference in how it all comes together. Regardless, this is something people should make an effort to see. Rating: B+
