The level of detail in the stop-motion animation is remarkable, and paired with Prokofiev’s enduring musical score, it makes for a genuinely enjoyable thirty minutes. Director Suzie Templeton made some adjustments to the narrative, incorporating an old Lada car and adding more introductory and concluding scenes than what's recalled from the 1946 Disney adaptation. "Peter" has been warned about the dangerous wolf, but his grandfather is insistent on keeping him safe within their home and preventing any pursuit of it. This action has created animosity with hunters in a nearby town, which only strengthens his resolve to trap this troublesome animal. An opportunity arises rather suddenly after his duck friend meets an unfortunate fate, leaving the bird and cat stranded high in a tree while the wolf prowls below. Equipped with just an old net and some rope, "Peter" must first free himself before he can devise a strategy to defeat his adversary. The characters are all wonderfully detailed, particularly the cat that appears to enjoy its creamy milk, and “Peter” himself, who possesses a very expressive face similar to his elderly and frail grandparent. The wintry and rural setting has been skillfully created, and the combination of visuals and music effectively tells this story.
