This would make an excellent Disney movie – a delightful and funny story full of memorable characters. It’s worth remembering that J.M. Barrie originally wrote “Peter Pan” around the turn of the twentieth century, so some of the dialogue and portrayals feel a little stereotypical; however, this shouldn't detract from the enjoyment of it. The Darling family is portrayed as affectionate but somewhat chaotic, with three children who all share a nursery in their attic and a large dog named Nana. Peter arrives and, along with his companion Tinker Bell, whisks the children away on several enchanting journeys to Never Land, where growing up isn't an option. Captain Hook appears as Peter’s nemesis, consumed by revenge for losing his hand to a crocodile that is equally eager to finish him off! The characters have surprising depth; while it could be considered a story about affection, it also introduces young viewers to themes of loyalty, belief, envy, and friendship in a very accessible way. There's plenty of excitement as well – a fantastic sword fight, lots of flying sequences, and the children’s carefree spirit is truly infectious. The animation is beautifully done by hand, with bright colors that enhance the film’s overall sense of happiness. Bobby Driscoll does a wonderful job playing Peter; it's a really superb film.
