It’s an acceptable film to view, though I doubt I’ll revisit it, and I could suggest it to others. The most significant issue lies in how peculiar everything feels. Rainn Wilson delivers a strong performance, but his portrayal as the conventional foil is strange. While he played a character who was both earnest and comical on "The Office," this role is distinct; here, he embodies seriousness that veers into sadness, with his marriage facing difficulties. What strikes me most oddly is that this represents Kira McLean’s sole film appearance. She doesn't just lead the movie effectively; she truly elevates it. She fully commits to portraying adolescent frustration in each of her narrative arcs, appearing in every storyline except for the subplot concerning the parents' marital troubles. It’s an adequate movie, a respectable coming-of-age tale blending themes of being “the new kid,” rekindled romance, and “self-discovery,” but it’s all conveyed through an exceptionally bizarre lens, which I believe is intended to reflect the atmosphere of a "small hick town."
