I’m on the fence about whether Sean Ellis’s expansion of his 2004 short film was truly necessary, but I will say he did bring Sean Biggerstaff and Emelia Fox together for this longer story centered around “Ben.” Ben is an art student recently left by his girlfriend who struggles with insomnia. To combat this, he takes a nighttime job at a supermarket where he can observe several attractive women. Then something unexpected occurs. It’s not what you might think – he discovers that snapping his fingers allows him to stop time, essentially turning all the shoppers into frozen figures. This presents an irresistible temptation for the frustrated artist, and he begins wandering around the store, sketching the most appealing women after exposing them. Meanwhile, his romantic life continues its downward spiral; his friend “Sean” (played by Sean Higgins) isn’t offering much support, and his coworkers enjoy playing pranks on their boss "Jenkins" (Stuart Goodwin), who also happens to be the brother of the person who broke up with Ben. Some might see this as either a darkly humorous exploration of art or simply an excuse for prolonged female nudity. Personally, I didn't find myself invested because the film felt incredibly slow and just uninteresting. The narration, delivered by Biggerstaff in a rather unremarkable way, shifted between being self-absorbed and outright tedious, and the script never attempts to make this introspective and hormonally driven observer likeable. It’s not titillating or alluring; it's surprisingly cold and impersonal.
