It's striking how often visually impaired characters portrayed on screen are exceptionally attractive—except when they’re villains or struggling with poverty; then their looks seem to disappear. In this story, Sara Taylor, played by Michelle Monaghan, is a photojournalist working in Afghanistan who loses her sight due to an explosion. Later in the film, people will seriously refer to her as having a "very pretty face" and "soft green eyes," so gentle and verdant that you have to question why she consistently wears dark sunglasses. The plot requires that an improvised explosive device detonates near her face with enough force to cause permanent blindness, but somehow she escapes without any other injuries. That's just not believable. Still, this is the sort of production where a cat could be tossed from a penthouse balcony and then show up unharmed at the bottom right before the end. It’s possible it was simply another black cat, which would make the event purely coincidental rather than unbelievably absurd.
