It's accurate to say this film feels directionless; that description really captures the experience. The earlier Pee-wee movies had storylines that made more sense, they felt more complete, and generally featured stronger central plot devices. However, the movie does prompt a discussion – is Pee-wee an immature man or a strange, unsettling figure? That’s essentially all you'll take away from it. Frankly, most of the rest feels like a collection of disconnected scenes. Still, there’s a certain nostalgic appeal and some dreamlike qualities, so at least you can make it to the end credits despite how scattered everything is.
