I’m putting together a review covering both "X" and "Pearl." After seeing how well these films were received by audiences and reviewers alike, I'm unsure what criteria people are using to judge quality in movies. Let’s begin with “X,” which I thought was simply dreadful. The movie seems centered on adult content instead of a solid plot, creating an unpleasant and fragmented experience for the viewer. The cinematography, acting, narrative construction, and script were all below average, but critics seemed to like it anyway. Jenna Ortega's presence didn’t help matters much, as she barely appeared amidst a lot of male nudity and adult scenes, which makes this something you might want to watch by yourself if you decide to see it at all. Then there was "Pearl," and I felt similarly let down because that one also leaned heavily on sexual content. The film went in an odd direction, ending with a scene so strange that I left the theater feeling shocked. It’s hard to understand why these movies are getting positive attention, particularly when performances like Mia Goth's didn’t impress me. It looks like what people want now is sensationalism over good stories. As we wait for the next film in the series, it seems that viewers might be more interested in immediate satisfaction than in something with substance.
