It’s an aesthetically impressive imitation of John Woo’s style in a western setting. The performers are all excellent, but the plot wanders and there's too much reliance on 'blur-fu,' which was common in Hong Kong movies back then, preventing this from being a truly memorable final appearance by Chow Yun-Fat in Asian cinema. Naturally, he did return about five years afterward with CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON.
