The heroes come across as genuinely heroic, and those on the wrong side are clearly villains. Patriot Games functions well as a thriller, though it might feel slightly dated when watched today; it remains a powerful depiction of good versus evil. The original story is so complex that adapting it into a two-hour film was always going to be challenging, but I think those involved did a commendable job of maintaining its substance while creating characters who are engaging and enjoyable to watch. The performances are perfectly acceptable; Harrison Ford does well as Jack Ryan, successfully showing him as both a caring family man and someone capable of handling difficult situations. Anne Archer is also convincing in her role as the wife and mother entangled in the unfolding events. Sean Bean leads the antagonists, though his character could have benefited from more development, and Richard Harris’s contribution feels limited. Nevertheless, the action sequences are memorable, and thankfully, the final act delivers a truly exciting conclusion that justifies the time invested in watching it. It follows a predictable structure to some extent, but that's acceptable if everyone involved executes their roles effectively, which is fortunately what happens here. 7/10
