I intended to view it without high hopes, and while it didn’t reach masterpiece status, I was pleasantly surprised by how much better it turned out compared to many contemporary films centered around space. The entire narrative unfolds aboard a spaceship. It's essentially a story about a journey through space, with 5,000 people traveling toward a new home planet when one passenger unexpectedly awakens from his hibernation pod. He’s meant to be roused, along with everyone else, months before they arrive at their destination, but he comes out of stasis nearly a century too early, and the film follows what happens next. It's unrelated to the 2008 movie sharing the same title. I initially assumed it would resemble a live-action 'Wall-E'. It isn’t entirely that, though some scenes and the two main characters evoke comparisons to Wall-E and Eva. The cast is small, which I appreciated, and while the script is straightforward, it's also quite effective, making it one of the strongest films of its type. The performances were very good, and the visuals were stunning—it’s an ideal film for quiet viewing late at night. This comes from the Norwegian director known for 'Headhunters'. While not his first Hollywood project, he previously received an Oscar nomination for 'The Imitation Game'. The premise felt reminiscent of 'The Blue Lagoon' or a space-age version of the Garden of Eden story. I anticipated certain scenes, which proved to be rather predictable. However, the film really took off in its later sections, particularly when the emphasis moved beyond the initial setup. Some aspects aren’t scientifically plausible, but within a cinematic context, anything is possible. With this kind of concept, the movie progressed toward an ending that included a surprising reveal. It's entertaining and easily one of the best films of the year—highly recommended! 8/10
