The relationship between Tomas (Franz Rogowski) and his husband Martin (Ben Whishaw) experiences significant strain as Tomas develops feelings for Agathe (Adèle Exarchopoulos), leading to Martin’s involvement with Amad (Erwan Kepoa Falé). What follows is, without exaggeration, a rather slow-moving exploration of characters who didn't particularly engage me. Rogowski possesses the potential to be an appealing performer, but in this instance, his portrayal feels fairly ordinary—a depiction of a man desiring gratification while attempting to maintain what he already has. Whishaw, as often happens now, comes across as somewhat fragile and delivers another character who appears willing to passively accept circumstances rather than striving to protect the love he should feel. The film progresses without generating much excitement; it feels overwritten, and despite its apparent visual realism, ultimately leaves one feeling indifferent. The production design and tempo contribute to a general sense of weariness, and I must admit, I was somewhat let down by this underwhelming effort. I watched it in theaters recently, but I believe even the most dedicated admirers of these actors could comfortably wait for a broadcast on television.
