His folks consider him eccentric, yet "Norman" maintains he can talk to his late grandmother—particularly when she requests a warmer house! When his uncle suggests that his unusual ability could be useful in a ceremony meant to protect their quiet town from an ancient spell, he consents to participate; however, suddenly, the area is overrun with zombies and it's up to "Norman" to discover the origin of the curse and locate a method—alongside his well-liked sister and some new, unexpected companions—to reverse it before time runs out. It’s an entertaining film for all ages, featuring memorable characters (including Kodi Smit-McPhee’s energetic vocal performance as the main character) and impressive stop motion animation. The script is often witty, providing plenty of amusement and food for thought for adults as the narrative unfolds. While not groundbreaking—the plot incorporates elements from films like "Salem's Lot" (1979) and "Hocus Pocus" (1993)—it remains an enjoyable experience that’s best appreciated in a movie theater to fully appreciate the vibrant artistry and energetic Jon Brian score. The character designs are peculiar, with heads disproportionately large compared to their bodies, but it's their expressions that truly stand out, and I found this film quite pleasing.
