Jack Kilmer offers an adequate performance in what is ultimately a forgettable entry in the coming-of-age genre. The movie’s narrative feels strikingly familiar, echoing numerous previous films with its plot points and dialogue. Any attempts at originality come across as odd and don't quite fit with the overall tone or quality of the writing. It’s also worth noting that this project originated from a collection of short stories penned by James Franco. That seems to say enough on its own.
