Paint doesn't quite succeed on many levels. The story itself feels very commonplace and lacks any unique qualities, which made it difficult to become invested in what was happening. The rhythm of the film is also peculiar and uneven, hindering any chance for genuine emotional impact. On top of that, the attempts at humor didn’t work out well; the jokes felt unnatural and didn't get a single laugh. While there are clear nods to Bob Ross, portraying him as someone who behaves poorly simply didn't sit right and diminished the overall impression. The acting isn’t particularly memorable either. Owen Wilson tries his best to embody the Bob Ross persona, and he does have good comedic timing, but the flawed writing prevents him from truly excelling. It’s disappointing because he has shown himself to be a capable actor previously, yet even his abilities couldn't rescue this movie. The filmmaking itself seems lacking; there wasn’t much imagination apparent in the production. As I mentioned earlier, the uneven pacing contributes to the film feeling dull and drawn-out. The length of 90 minutes isn't excessive, but I was constantly wishing for it to end. Ultimately, Paint fails to deliver on nearly every front. It suffers from a generic story, unsuccessful attempts at comedy, unremarkable performances, and uninspired direction. With its strange pacing and absence of creativity, the film is tough to sit through, and there's nothing that redeems the unpleasant experience. Score: 28% Verdict: Bad
