It’s easy to imagine someone suggesting that ‘Pain and Glory’ might be Pedro Almodóvar's last film, and I would probably accept that idea. The way the movie portrays a person examining their history is striking in its honesty and deeply moving. There’s an unmistakable sense of necessity behind the film; it feels like a need to comprehend, consider, appreciate, and grieve what has been. It presents an artist at a pivotal point, approaching the end of their life, contemplating their work and the consequences that came with it, while confronting the possibility of not being able to create anymore. ‘Pain and Glory’ is profoundly lovely, lingering in your thoughts long after you've seen it, almost like a scent. The more I consider it, the more convinced I am that I have witnessed something truly exceptional. I am eager to experience it once again.
