This spy film proved quite enjoyable. It adhered to a key convention of the genre—the protagonist’s uncertainty about who is trustworthy—while managing to avoid the convoluted, anxiety-inducing narratives that plague some espionage stories. I've found myself increasingly impressed by Bill Nighy's performances. He evokes Mark Rylance, another actor adept at both leading and supporting roles, in his ability to deliver compelling work through understated and believable moments rather than relying on loud or exaggerated displays of emotion. The film lacks a traditional antagonist—no grandiose villain like those seen in other movies. Instead, the opposing force is presented as the American government itself, even the department where the protagonist works. I wasn’t entirely sure how to feel about the fact that our hero, who seems quite vulnerable and advanced in years, could so easily attract a young woman's affection, but ultimately it felt like a minor detail, not particularly significant to the overall story. I had intended to watch this movie for some time, and I’m pleased that I finally did.
